Still Biking in Kansas
Still Biking in Kansas
The journey across
Kansas is/has become a never-ending grind.
Today we entered rolling hilly terrain, as one can observe from the
cumulative climbing and descending data:
4,052 ft up and 4,137 ft down.
After all the climbing and we are basically at the same elevation that we started - 1100 ft. The afternoon heat and humidity was the worst on the entire trip.

Day 26
Location:
Junction City to Topeka, KS
Distance:
83 miles
Temp: 67
– 93 F
Dew
point: 65 F
Winds:
non-issue
Cumulative climbing distance: 4,052 ft
Cumulative descending distance: 4,137 ft
Total we crossed the halfway point in our
journey from LA to Boston. The total
distance is 3,410 miles and we have come 1,734 miles.
I never think about the total distance as it is too daunting but rather think
exclusively about we need to accomplish today.
A little distraction at today's morning SAG wagon stop.
Stopped in a very small country town of Dover for mid-afternoon pie on our travels to Topeka.
Typical photo of the day. Note the never-ending rolling hills.
The countryside is becoming for forested, smaller fields, less irrigation, more hay and pastures, more horses.
Stopped in a very small country town of Dover for mid-afternoon pie at small café with true rural mid-America look.
Today we biked on typical "blue" highways running about 10 south of Interstate I-70. This area is noted for the stone buildings made of limestone blocks.
Note the limestone layers in this road bank.
Selection of limestone buildings: house, barn and main street store (1902). |
Many of the farm houses had various wood cravings in their front yards.
This could be your typical sunday bike ride. I see you got to play in the sandbox, but only by yourself. Be safe guys!
