Monday 10th June, 2019
Day 31

Location: Quincy to Springfield, IL
Distance: 106 miles. Biked 103 miles
Temp: 62 – 75 F sunny
Dew point:  54 F
Winds:  19 mph, crosswind to slight headwind

Cumulative climbing distance:  2,181 ft
Cumulative descending distance:  2,224 ft

Biked first century ride of the trip.  Got swept up by the SAG wagon at one point but still able to bike 103 miles today.  A new personal best.

Little time for photos or sightseeing today as the long distance and fatigue were the dominant factors.
At the lowest elevation since departing the mountain states.  Central Illinois is about 560 ft.

Typical view of central Illinois.

Western Illinois is somewhat hilly with smaller farms and, at most, a few percent of the farms with small herds of beef cattle.  Saw no dairy cows, even though there is a significant percentage of ideal pasture land and hay fields.  I understand the low wholesale price of milk is decimating the dairy farmers.  That is quite obvious here.

Note the wind-blown dust clouds form the freshly tilled fields.  The wind was 19 mph with gust >25 mph.  Tough biking conditions.
