A Day of Rest??

A Day of Rest??
Tuesday 4th June, 2019
Day 25

Location: Junction City, KS
3rd of 5 rest days

For a much needed day of rest, the list of necessary chores occupied most of the time.  Laundry to do, bike cleaning and lubrication of the chain, shopping for personal supplies, download the biking maps and directions to the Garmin GPS systems for the next 7 days, 2 days worth of blog updates, a few phone calls, work emails and a chance to sleep until 6:30 AM.

Since our last day in Santa Fe I have biked 698 miles (average 78 miles per day) during the past 9 days, many of those miles with a headwind, reached the highest elevation of the tour (7,500 ft), biked 8 torturous miles on a milled highway, and climbed a cumulative 15,500 vertical feet.  No wonder we are exhausted.

On a different note, time is passing much too quickly, in part, because our activities have us so fully engaged for the entire day.

We were warned that the trip would pass much too quickly, and now we must agree.  We are into our 4th week (22 biking days and 3 rest days) and tomorrow is the halfway point in terms of distance.  Seems like we just started 1 week ago.

We have NOT watched TV once during the entire trip.  As strange as that seems, we are always rushing in the morning to be fully packed and really to depart at 6:45 and then after dinner I am rushing to complete the blog and get to bed ideally by 8:00 – 8:30, but it is always 9:30 – 10:00 PM.

After the first week we settled into an efficient and consistence routine, as we have little opportunity for a down time.

Our Daily Routine

- gather appropriate information,
- review daily photos from Judi and my smart phones,
- download selected photos to laptop and then upload to blog site,
- write the daily blog, which is basically a raw dump of my reflections on the day,
- given time constraints, little effort is made to edit or proofread.

- Complete blog and get to bed:   ideally by 8:00 – 8:30, but it is always 9:30 – 10:00 PM.
